Beacon Hill Area Neighborhood Association

BHANA is a voluntary association of residents (homeowners and renters), property owners and local businesses. Founded in 1978, it promotes the “preservation, protection, and development of the Beacon Hill Area, to provide a better quality environment for living and enjoying the rich multi-cultural heritage of both past and present by extending opportunities to residents; landowners; or anyone doing business in the area; or any interested party through education, along lines of neighborhood and community affairs, and local topics of immediate interest...” We charge no dues, and everyone is invited and encouraged to participate.

BHANA’s general membership meeting is the second Monday of almost every month. Our seven-member board meets almost every month on the last Monday. Meetings are open to all. To keep our membership informed, we produce and print an eight-page monthly newsletter which we deliver to doorsteps through a network of volunteers to 2,200 households; more copies are distributed to local businesses for patrons to pick up.

President

San Antonio has been home to me since 2005. After living in several parts of the city, I moved to Beacon Hill in 2020 and immediately felt a connection to the neighborhood. I still remember getting my first neighborhood newsletter and thinking, “I’ve found my home.”

I’ve been a proud H-E-B Partner for the past 17 years, and outside of work I enjoy walking through the neighborhood, spending time with friends, and experiencing all that San Antonio has to offer.

Serving as a director on the BHANA Board has made my connection to Beacon Hill even stronger. It has given me the opportunity to see firsthand the time, energy, and care our neighbors and committees put into this community. I’m incredibly proud of everything that has been accomplished over the past few years and grateful to have had a front-row seat to it.

Vice President

I have lived in Beacon Hill at 1044 W. Mulberry Avenue for about six years.   I had retired in 2014 as president of Northwest Vista College and had lost both my husband and my daughter to cancer.   In 2020 I decided to move from the home I had in Helotes and to somewhere closer into San Antonio, where I was spending much of my time.  I had a realtor friend and asked him to help me find a place.  We looked at homes in several parts of town.  One day we were driving around neighborhoods in this area, and I happened to see this home, where I now live, for sale.  What a stroke of luck!  I love this friendly community where I have met many of you when out working in my yard, participating in events, or taking my daily walk.

I feel blessed to have met so many lovely people, and I look forward to many more opportunities for socializing and working together to foster sustainability.

Cynthia Spielman

Secretary

I am a retired public high school English teacher who moved to Beacon Hill in 2001. I am one of four generations who have lived in this neighborhood. Since 2002, I have served on the board or on various committees and on city task forces on behalf of BH. I love this neighborhood and I am so excited about all of the new ideas and the great neighbors who have stepped up to volunteer. I believe that positive change in the world begins on a local level and I feel lucky to be surrounded by neighbors who seem to recognize how important local efforts are.

Daniel Hubbeling

Treasurer

My wife and I, and a multitude of cats, have lived in Beacon Hill since 2008. My work for the neighborhood association started innocently enough, just delivering newsletters once a month. But after serving on 3 committees and now starting my 9th term on the board, I think it may have gotten out of hand.

Nancy Canseco

Director

I have been a Beacon Hill resident for 6 years after moving here from Chicago. I own a photography studio and am passionate about community and the arts.

Nico Baker

Director

I moved to Beacon Hill with my husband and our dog in 2024 after hearing about the strong sense of community here, and it’s lived up to the hype! I’ve worked in commuter transportation for over 10 years, and when I’m not working, I love running, cooking, and finding great live music around San Antonio. I’m excited to be part of the board and help keep Beacon Hill a wonderful place to live.

Taylor Komlosi

Director

I moved to San Antonio last year and moved to the neighborhood a few months ago. The Beacon Hill community has been such a fun place to live and I am excited to serve on the board and be a helpful, friendly face for all neighbors! I am a teacher and when I'm not working I’m trying new recipes in my kitchen, recently have got into making sourdough bread!
